For what or for whom do you grieve?
Personally, I grieve for my best friend, my grandmother, my cats (Princess, Sox, Eastman and Mystery), my high school sweetheart and some of the many people I've covered on the death beat. What about you?
This obituary-related forum serves as the blog for The Society of Professional Obituary Writers. Please join in the discussion with and ask questions of folks who write about the dead for a living, and others, who study, enjoy, read and/or write obituaries.

I grieve for my birthson, whom I was able to spend the last 7 years of his life celebrating adoption reunion! All the extended families that had not known of each other came together and created a beautiful family. . He tragically choose to leave this world last week. I would like to honor him thru his obituary and all he stood for in this world. I came to this site for "insight" in leaving a legacy for adoption reunion, the warnings of depression. The love of nature that he believed in.
It's okay to mourn and grieve over a death of a love one, its a natural thing to do. We want to enjoy life and we want to do it with people we love. And with that it's also natural to yearn to see them again as well. But the bible teaches a very hopeful and reassuring message. The bible teaches that most people who have died will be resurrected.
John 5:28,29 Jesus promised that "the hour is coming in which all those on the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." God's original purpose was for us to live hear on a paradise earth. SO those who have died will be resurrected and will also have the opportunity to live on a paradise earth.(Luke 23:43) And during this time GOd promises us that death will be no more, nor will there be anymore mourning nor pain.(Revelation 21:3,4)Those are few out of the many encouraging thoughts from the bible that we can have full faith in when we feel sadden by the deaths around us. God gives great hope and he let's us know that this is not all there is to life, he gives us something to look forward to. Please, open your own bibles and read the scriputes sighted above, there's nothing like reading those promises out of your own copy of the bible. :-)
